Empowering The World's Diversity
|
The passion of Robert Anton is evident in the roll of his
voice, the power of his testimony and the excitement of
his presence. He is more than just a singer; he is an artist
with an amazing essence of truth, determination and
inspiration about him.
His third music project and probably his best work so far
provides a combination of smooth R&B, soulful dance
with fun highlights of reggae. His voice is big but not
overbearing, free but controlled while entertaining the
senses at every turn.
As with many performers, Robert’s initial musical influence was in his church
back in Cleveland, Ohio. “I used to go to church all the time even without my
family just to hear the singing; my grandma was the pastor. Naturally
Christian/gospel is the earliest music I remember hearing and singing. The
choirs and quartets who came through the church, but also the many voices I
heard during devotional in our little store-front.”
But over time, when childhood gave way to adulthood, Robert began to
broaden his musical horizon and deepen his musical roots. “I was singing in
choir and my voice was changing (from tenor to baritone). I did a solo while
playing around in class (My Girl) and everyone took notice. The choir director
moved me from the tenor section. That year I was also the star of the talent
show.”
A few years later in high school, Robert made the decision that music is what
he wanted to do full time, end of story! From that point forward he studied and
practiced the craft to prepare him for his big move to New York City where he
now resides as a full-time artist.
Start Small But Think Big!!
So you wanna be a big singer, actor, or independent business owner?? Well
start planting the seeds of success now to reap the rewards of your harvest
tomorrow. Overnight success rare but the key ingredient to eventually
obtaining it is vision. It is the vision to start small, grow what you have and
build upon both your successes and challenges.
Today Robert Anton has a hot CD with singles playing on radio stations across
the country. A few years ago he was selling cassette tapes of his work through
word of mouth as he explains his journey:
“I was very lucky to be able to sell my music as I went along. I started selling a
2-song cassette for 5 dollars and then a 4 song CD for 10 dollars; and everyone
kept coming back to tell me how much people loved the music and enjoyed my
vocals. So my producer/mentor said I should finish up an EP and put it up on
CD baby and have it for sale at shows. That was the start and suddenly I had a
plan for a project a year. So far, I've done 3 including a Christmas CD with an
original New Year's song.”
Hope, Love and Dancing Through Adversity
|
One thing that definitely is clear about Robert Anton’s newest CD, “Insane” is
that he is providing hope through despair, love through rejection, and success
over adversity. All of this is beautifully massaged and carefully presented
through a combination of soulful chords and engaging lyrics to high energy
dance tracks and reggae feel-good elements.
He explains with intimate detail the origins of his message:
With all of my music …the message is of hope and love. I always had a thing
where I would 'dance' through adversity. Whenever I was feeling upset or down
or boxed in, I'd throw on some tunes and dance until I could sweat it out. The
music really would be my therapy and things seemed to just fall into place once
I did my thing. I don't know that there's a really cohesive unit in the CD besides
the fact that it's all written by me and there are many facets to my personality.
I'd just say it's all about my journey and the journey of those around me.”
Faith That Surpasses Understanding
|
Everyday people struggle to believe in themselves when no one else is willing
to do so. And there are plenty who dare to dream of creating something from
nothing based merely upon a spiritual gut instinct. Robert Anton is no stranger
this as he is living proof that you can indeed live out your dreams, which
makes his gift of music even more special.
In fact he dispenses his own home-spun brand of advice to others also seeking
to have a career in the industry at no charge, all in order to pass on the
blessing and to be the blessing in the lives of other people.
“All things start with that first step. Believe in yourself and in your dream. I
know for certain that they still come true. I do a video series on YouTube
[youtube.com/robertanton] called, 'So You Wanna Be a Singer' that touches
on many of the things I wish I had learned as I've come along and also on
things that come up time and again throughout my professional life.”
He adds that although a lack of financial resources is a major challenge to him,
he is blessed to find a creative way around it. “Every day is a challenge. I
think just putting my foot on the path is probably the biggest one (and money).
It's always about having enough money to do things the way that you think
they should be done. But I'm so blessed and I never forget it, so challenges are
just another chance to be creative for me.”
The Future of Robert Anton
|
In addition to singing, Robert Anton is also an actor with a growing portfolio
under his belt. However, juggling both disciplines can be rather difficult and
multi-talented performers are often forced to choose one talent over the
other. For Robert his immediate goal is clear; music is his preferred choice.
“My goals at the moment are to catalogue this immense amount of music that
I have already written and to keep working on new material. I hope to place
music in TV and film, but I think it's more important to touch people. If I've
written something and someone comes back and says, "Man, I really felt
what you were going through/talking about" or "You really made my day with
that/made me smile" then I feel that I'm on the right path.
Although his first and primary love at the moment is singing; acting still looms
as a distant option and Robert hasn’t completely ruled it out of his future.
“I love acting and many of the creative arts. I was trained as a
singer/actor/dancer and started my professional career out in musical theater,
and I had a good time and got to go a lot of great places. I just think that first
I need to do 'my' work with the talents that I was given. I've actually been
talking to some people about a part in a movie that starts shooting in January.
Say a little prayer for me!”
